Today, Sen. Gillibrand (D-NY) and Sen. Rubio (R-FL) and 11 other Senators introduced bipartisan legislation directing the U.S. DOT to upgrade the standard for rear underride guards and require side and front guards. TSC, CRASH and P.A.T.T. commend your leadership and strongly endorse the bill. Truck underride crashes are devastating and can be prevented. We have the solutions but we need DOT action.
CRASH and TSC Board member Jennifer Tierney’s dad was killed 37 years ago in a tragic truck underride crash. She has been a strong champion of better guards. Too many people are needlessly dying in underride crashes and too little progress has been made to stop these tragedies when solutions are available. We agree.
