On Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at approximately 3:15 a.m., Elgie was on his way to work in his personal vehicle, traveling eastbound on I-44 toward Rolla, Missouri. As a Class A CDL driver with 10 years of experience operating semi-trucks, he exercised caution when encountering floodwaters covering the highway. Due to the darkness and the inability to assess the depth of the water, he began to slow down and brought his vehicle to a complete stop for safety. While stopped, his truck was violently struck from behind by another semi-truck, which caused Elgie’s vehicle to be pushed forward into the rear of the semi-truck in front of me. Elgie sustained serious and expensive medical injuries from the crash and has been forced to start a GoFundMe to cover his expenses, despite doing nothing wrong but being in the wrong place at the wrong time: https://www.gofundme.com/f/elgies-fight-overcoming-injury-loss
