On March 22, 2018, Diana Hicks and Jay Zell Sr were driving from Wyoming to Maryland to attend Jay’s mom’s funeral.  While driving East on the Indiana Toll Road, a semi-truck lost control, crossed over multiple lanes and the median then landed on top of the Toyota Prius Diana and Jay were traveling in. Their vehicle caught fire and everything burned. Diana and Jay lost their lives. The truck driver was pulled from the burning wreckage by a witness who said “the truck just ran them over”. Results of the driver’s toxicology screen were negative, and she denied falling asleep despite exceeding her legal maximum driving hours. The driver was never charged and is still driving a CMV today.
