Truck Safety Coalition Victories
We have been working to prevent truck crash deaths and injuries for 30+ years. Here are a few of our notable successes. To learn about our current policy efforts, go to Get Educated.
One of the most important things we can do with our grief and pain is to share it with lawmakers. Federal and State legislatures can change policy to prevent senseless loss and injury from truck crashes. The Truck Safety Coalition has been amplifying the voices of survivors and families of truck crash victims for 30 years, and we can help you find your voice.
Many of our volunteers have found comfort and healing in sharing their stories to shape policy. One of the first thoughts many of us had was, “how could this happen, and why doesn’t somebody do something?” Truck crashes are a public health problem with known solutions. Our advocacy programs are prevention programs. At the Truck Safety Coalition, we have found a way to soften the hard edges of grief through taking action.

We led the effort to require all trailers be equipped with reflective tape to reduce underride crashes.
We championed a requirement for electronic logging devices (ELDs) to prevent cheating in driving logbooks.
We are a consistent force in stopping the repeated attempts to increase truck size and weight, including the spread of double 33-foot trailers in every state.
We repeatedly thwart attacks on federal hours-of-service (HOS) rules which dictate working hours for truck drivers.
We worked successfully with legislators to mandate a federal rule requiring automatic emergency braking (AEB) as standard equipment for large trucks (Class 7 & 8) and upgrading the current federal performance standard for rear underride trailer guards in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) recently enacted into law.
TSC has repeatedly thwarted efforts to allow unfettered interstate teen trucking. Presently, we are forcefully opposing a Teen Trucking Pilot program authorized by the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act.
