Unique non-profit safety organization in Washington, DC, seeks Executive Director to lead efforts focused on advancing truck safety laws and policies, growing and organizing our supporters and increasing the visibility of TSC. We are a highly successful organization established in 1990 whose views are sought by Members of Congress, state legislators, government officials, public health and safety organizations, and the media.

The ideal candidate will work with an activist board of directors made up of prominent safety leaders and victim/survivors. Overall responsibilities include managing small office; hiring new staff; developing and promoting program initiatives; working with families and victims of truck crashes and other consumer and safety groups; and growing the organization both in terms of supporters and funding.

The ideal candidate should have experience and working knowledge of federal and/or state legislative processes as well as an ability to plan and implement advocacy and fundraising strategies. Additionally, the Executive Director should have excellent writing skills, strong interpersonal and organizational skills as well as proficiency in handling multiple tasks in a fast- paced working environment.

Primary Job Responsibilities and Duties:

• Represent TSC at meetings and hearings and effectively communicate the organization’s priorities on Capitol Hill, in state legislatures, in government agencies and with other safety partners and stakeholders.
• Establish and maintain relations with legislative staff, government officials, thought leaders, and relevant safety, public health and consumer organizations.
• Monitor and analyze federal and state legislation and related policy issues to determine possible impact on truck safety policies, programs and laws.
• Develop, coordinate and implement grassroots advocacy initiatives.
• Prepare informational and advocacy materials including fact sheets, talking points, letters and position papers on safety issues.
• Work with the Board on special projects, fundraising and events, to include the biennial “Sorrow to Strength” conference.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

• Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience on the staff of an elected official or in the areas of government/legislative affairs in the private sector or with a non-profit organization.
• Ability to work independently yet cooperatively and collaboratively with TSC Board Members and staff.
